About
Kevin Fleming

As a writer:
Kevin Fleming released his first book, Reach for the Stars, on April 5, 2016, and his second book, Beware the Grumpelpuss,on October 4th, 2019 – with many more in the works!  He has a knack for using humor and rhyme to tell stories, and writes for both children and the adults who read to them.   He hopes that readers of all ages will laugh, use their imagination, and find inspiration through his writing.  Kevin believes that people have incredible power to influence their environment far beyond what they may realize, and the themes in his writing reflect his hope that people understand the ways in which they uniquely contribute to the world around them. He believes that people are good, valuable, and exceptional, and he hopes his books will help spread a sense of wonder and optimism amongst those who read them.

He is a proud member of SCBWI and encourages all those who are serious about writing for children to join the organization.

Outside his author life:
In his day job, Kevin is passionate about education and nonprofit work, and has worked as an educator in middle school, high school, and college settings.  He worked in higher education for 19 years in alumni relations and college student development. Recently, he “took the plunge” and co-founded Prosper Nonprofit Advisors (strategists for philanthropy and engagement), where he serves as the CEO.

He enjoys leading and motivating groups of people, creating and implementing new programming, and making those he works with feel appreciated and valuable.  Kevin holds a Ph.D. in higher education administration from UMass Amherst, a master’s degree in college student personnel from Bowling Green State University, and a bachelor's of arts in Psychology with a minor in middle school education.  He loves teaching of any kind, and his research interests include alumni engagement theory and graduate alumni giving behaviors, having published a ground-breaking theory on alumni engagement, “The ‘Pots of Water’ Framework for Alumni Engagement.” His dissertation explored the influence of graduate student experience on graduate alumni giving, and he is relieved to have earned his degree!
